14 out of 25 private schools in Ahmedabad fail to display details of their board affiliation on school notice board, violate DPEO and DEO’s orders
Who will school the schools that teach the generation next to be transparent in conduct, but fail to practise it themselves? Most private schools in Ahmedabad are yet to display their board affiliation and other vital details on school notice board despite clear instructions from the District Education Primary Officer (DPEO) and District Education Officer (DEO).
The circular was issued more than a month ago after several cases -of schools errantly advertising affiliation to one board but following the syllabus of another -came to light.
Out of 25 city schools that Mirror visited, 14 had not placed the certificate of affiliation on the notice board. While some schools had mentioned the trust’s name, its address and registration number, most missed out on the crucial certificate of affiliation detail.
Mirror conducted the check between January 31 and February 8 wherein majority of schools were found flouting the norms. DPEO and DEO had issued a circular dated December 29, 2016, and January 25, 2017, respectively asking schools to put up details on the notice board to ensure transparency for parents and students.
Parents seek adherence to rules
A parent, whose ward studies in Anand Niketan School, Satellite, on the condition of anonymity, said, “There is no point in keeping the certificate inside the principal’s cabin as parents don’t have access to it. The school should place it on the notice board thus assuring us of the affiliation and avoid confusion.“
Another parent whose daughter studies in DAV International School said, “It is completely unfair when on one hand the school expects the parents to pay whopping fees but on the other fails to follow rules prescribed by the education authorities. It is more than a month since the circular was issued and the school should be responsible enough to follow it.“
`CBSE schools not under DEO, DPEO ambit’
A CBSE school principal commented, “First, we never receive circulars from the DEO or DPEO. Further, they have no jurisdiction over the CBSE schools. We will display the details only if the CBSE board asks us to do so. We don’t come under the jurisdiction of the DEO or DPEO.“
Officials assure of strict action
When informed that 14 out of 25 schools in Ahmedabad were not displaying the vital information, DEO (City) Navneet Mehta said, “We will review the matter again and the schools will have to strictly follow the directions or action will be taken against them.“
DPEO Mahesh Mehta commented, “As an official, I expect the schools to follow the education department’s rules. I have emailed the circular to the concerned schools and also put it on the WhatsApp group. If so many schools have failed to follow the rule, I will again send the circular directing them to display the details. If the school still fails to follow, strict action will be taken.“
In fact, several schools put up the details on the notice board when Mirror questioned them about its absence. While some displayed the details on the banner outside the school gates but not on the notice board, as per the circular.
