In a review meeting held to discuss the implementation of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus as taught in 57 state board-run English medium schools, in a pilot project, principals of the participating schools praised the move. Principals of around 39 schools, who attended the review meeting held on Wednesday, discussed the benefits and demerits of the experiment.
The meeting with principals of the remaining 18 schools would be held next week in Surat, sources said. Most principals were positive about the implementation and had said that NCERT syllabus should be implemented from class 6 onwards, so that students won’t find it as difficult.
“It is a good move and should be continued. However, teachers must be trained for the new syllabus,“ said one of the principals who had attended the review meeting. “Moreover, question paper module should be selected and students trained on preparing for the exams giving due weightage to specific topics,“ he added.
The move is being implemented for around 10,000 students of class 9 at present, and it was suggested that the same be implemented for students of class 10.
R I Patel, secretary, GSHSEB said, “The exams for Maths, Science and English for students from these schools would be according to state board format, but based on NCERT syllabus. The marksheets would be issued by the state board.“ “We have received a positive response and in our subsequent meetings with the government, we would suggest incorporation of needed changes in classes 11 and 12,“ said Patel.
