Edu Officials To Monitor School Ratings
Clamping down on liberal ratings in Class 10 exams, which trigger a wide disparity between aptitude and marks, the director of school education has decided to curb lenient internal markings in schools and an expert team has been constituted to inspect and implement.
District education officials (DEOs) have been directed to monitor awarding of internal marks, said director of school education G Kishan. Head masters and teachers will comprise monitoring panels formed at the mandal-level. These teams will be touring high schools between January and February to stop schools from being lenient to SSC students.
This year, over five lakhs students will be appearing for exams between March 14 and March 30. While pre-finals are scheduled to begin from February 20, the school education department instructed DEOs to complete the assessment process.
Sources said, school managements often award higher internal marks to students to achieve 100% pass percentage. “Marks and grades shall be observed visà-vis with records and corrected properly and certified. In case of improper markings, the team shall correct records and sent photographs to district educational officer for necessary action,“ reads proceedings issued by director.
Authorities clarified in proceedings that if there is any deviation or manipulation in awarding of marks to class 10 students, monitoring teams will be held guilty .On December 30, a meeting will be held between all DEOs and expert teams to issue guidelines on preparations for the SSC exams.
Meanwhile, school education department has set the stage for successful conduct of SSC exams with instructions being sent to all district education officers to ensure that the syllabus is completed, extra classes are held and internal assessment marks completed. Director has instructed all district education officers to monitor the continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) system for class 10 students in government and private schools.
From conducting revision programmes to discussing question paper patterns, school education department has issued a set of guidelines to all managements.
The board has slotted 80% weightage to each subject for the summative external public examinations and 20% to internal tests under formative assessment. In formative assessments, five marks each are allotted for reading skills, science experiments, generating math problems and reading text and its interpretation in social studies.
After completion of the formative assessment, school principals have to verify records and keep it ready for expert committees to verify and approve, before uploading the details online.
