About School
Introduction
The EFA Global monitoring report published by UNESCO in 2005 focussed on the Quality of education and stated that the role of education is to encourage learners creative and emotional development, support the objective of peace citizenship and security, promote equality and pass global and local cultural values down to the future generation.
“Learning: the treasure within” report to UNESCO by the international commission on educational quality saw education to be based on
- Learning to know
- Learning to do
- Learning to live
- Learning to be
It acknowledges that learners build their knowledge by combining indigenous and external elements, focus on practical application, imbibe critical life skills and develop proficiency needed to achieve full potential.
Quality School education fosters the development of innate qualities in an individual and strives to synchronize the rhythm of an individual’s life with the rhythm of the society which forms the building block or foundation for personal growth.
Education today however equates learning to the ability of a student to recall, reproduce and replicate. This is a far cry from either the Indian guru “shishya parampara” which gave emphasis to receiving knowledge, its assimilation and its use to real life or alternatively the needs of the competitive global community we live in.
The current scenario ignores the fact that each student is different and has his/her own pace of learning. Education needs to prepare our students for a world of tomorrow that is growing smaller by the day, its challenges, inter cultural experiences and interactions and dynamic global ethos. Unfortunately though, the education instead of being rich, constructive, interactive and creative has become monotonous and mechanical.
Kunskapsskolan Educational Program (KED) was conceptualized in 1999 in Sweden in a bid to meet this challenge. KED program focuses on personalized education, individualized goals and creates students who take responsibility and ownership for their learning. This lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning as students develop the confidence that comes from setting high academic goals and consistently planning how to meet them, and ultimately achieving more than they thought was possible.
The Kunskapsskolan schools are among the leading schools of Sweden and the success of its program can be judged not only by students performance being higher than the Swedish national average, but also by the growth of KED schools to over 30 in Sweden. The program has crossed international boundaries with over 40 Kunskapsskolan schools currently being operational across Sweden, US, UK, India and with definitive plans to expand to the Netherlands & Saudi Arabia.
Kunskapsskolan now plans to introduce its K -12, KED program adapted to the Indian CBSE curriculum from the coming academic session April 2013. The aim of the program is to provide a Global perspective and ability to be a part of “vasudev kutumbakam” by providing for the learner opportunity to learn across global curriculums.
All people are different
All people are different – they learn in different ways and at different rates. It is our task to meet this challenge. Regardless of his or her ability, each student has the right to a personal challenge every day.
Clear requirements and challenging goals
There is no substitute for excellence in basic knowledge and skills. However, reaching this excellence demands both individual commitment from students and co-operation between students and teachers. With the support of committed, competent and stimulating teachers who both teach and guide, each student – through their own hard work, perseverance, and ambition – will stretch their limits and achieve more than they thought possible. We highlight good performances as examples to be followed.
Education is for life
We prepare students to live and work in a modern, global societies with their ever-changing challenges and difficult choices. Education gives us the ability to see contexts and patterns, to understand and interpret events, to make decisions and choices, and is a driving force for a continual deepening and broadening of one’s knowledge, skills and understanding. It empowers young people to make a positive contribution to society and to enjoy a fulfilling life. We believe in the international exchange – of ideas, students and professionals – as a key element in schools preparing for life in a global society.
“Life is what I make it!”
We give each student a foundation for personal development where self-discipline, empowerment, a sense of responsibility and confidence in one’s own ability provide the foundation for a constructive attitude.
Our Vision
Kunskapsskolan’s educational vision empowers every student to master the challenges of today and shape the world of tomorrow.
Schools around the world are facing extensive challenges. Although education is fundamentally linked to each society’s culture, language and history, the challenges facing governments and educators in different countries have much in common because in this new world our skills and competencies must be continuously renewed and developed. Knowledge and insights must be combined with creativity, initiative and the ability to take personal responsibility. All aspects of our schools are designed to provide a personalized education that meets the needs of each student and is built around the following core values:

Our Mission
Kunskapsskolan’s mission is to develop and operate outstanding schools where students, through personalized learning and clears goals will stretch their boundaries and learn more than they thought possible.
Our mission is both educational and social: a long-term commitment to excellence and world-leading standards in schools and education.
As a company of experienced teachers and educators, we are convinced that all children can grow beyond what is thought possible, if we take the time and have the skills to identify their unique individual needs and talents. The vast majority of Kunskapsskolan’s employees work with teaching. A significant feature of Kunskapsskolan is also the number of employees involved in research and development (R&D) and concept development; more than 30 full time employees work with pedagogical and methodological development and a large fraction of all Kunskapsskolan’s professional teachers also participate as discipline or methodology specialists serving the entire network of schools. This emphasis on applied research and development in schooling is unique. Pedagogical development in most countries tend to focus on either academic research – distant from application in real schools – or daily development of methodology – performed by individual teachers or schools, but never replicated.
The school as most of us know it, was an invention of the late 19th century. It was created to provide a skilled workforce for the new society. Mass education for mass manufacturing…
Today’s school should prepare for a different world. Personal responsibility and collaboration, globalization, technology and a career of life long learning.
Children who are given the opportunity to experience this education will not only learn more, but will also leave school as empowered and confident human beings – better equipped to take on the challenges and responsibilities of universities and working life.
As a company with its roots in the business community, we also know that an individualized education with clear goals provides a strong preparation for a future where very few will have identical professions and where all will have to have the flexibility to change working habits, skills and jobs several times.
